  We saw this bull, showing the rigors of the past rut in his broken tines, nibbling on twiggy sagebrush above a rock face last winter in Yellowstone. Watching him work on this sparse fare in 12-degree weather made me really thankful for a heated truck and a hot bowl of chili.
