Pole Paint
oil on canvas mounted on panel, 9 x 12

I first observed pole-bending at the Montana High School Finals rodeo here in Missoula this spring, and it was fun to watch! My best analogy is that it's like weave poles for horses, at a gallop...which, if you're not familiar with dog agility, probably makes no sense whatsoever. If you've never seen either event, pole-benders maneuver their horses in a zigzag fashion up a line of poles spaced 15-20 feet apart (my guess on distance), and the horses are changing leads constantly as they wrap around the poles. At the end pole, the team make a tight 270 around the end pole and charge back down the line again. Lots of action and color - my favorite!
